When my children were growing up, after church for Sunday Dinner we reported what we had learned at church each Sunday. Sometimes I would call the teacher because the child did not remember. I love the Come, Follow Me lessons because I always know a bit of what the children are learning.
Now I am a teacher again myself. I make the children a handout every week and include things to color, and activities from the lesson. When I was in the mission field, we would hand the papers out before Sacrament Meeting to give them something to do. Then, when class started, the children would share the one they had chosen to color during Sacrament meeting as the talk. When you have only 2-3 children the parents would soon become bored, but every week they had prepared on their own something to share. I like the pictures because they always have a scripture with them. Instant talk, well-prepared and the children learned. Note, I asked for permission from LDS Bookstore to use the pictures because they were translated into a language the church still has few materials translated into. I do always attach the source to the pictures. I have left my mission, but I still almost always send a handout to the children each week. Our Primary President, when we started our mission was pretty much baptized and made Primary President right after. She had never seen a Primary meeting, was not a teacher, and at that time, there was almost nothing translated by the church into the language we worked with. It really made a difference with the children having something to do, and soon a talk they could give and a note to take home to share with the family. Please note this was and is for a country where there still are few materials translated and the needs are great!
I am so very grateful to LDS Bookstore for allowing this.
