If you shop for gospel-centered gifts, you probably know Deseret Book. But it isn't the only place to find meaningful products for Latter-day Saints. LDSBookstore.com is a small, family-owned business in Orem, Utah, and we have been serving Latter-day Saints around the world since 2006. And since Seagull Book closed its stores at the end of 2025, more shoppers have been looking for other options. If you are searching for a Deseret Book alternative, here is what makes us different, and when each store might be the right fit for you.
Deseret Book and LDSBookstore.com: Two Different Kinds of Stores
Deseret Book was founded in 1866 and is owned by Deseret Management Corporation. It is a publisher as well as a retailer, with its own book imprints and retail stores across the western United States. If you want the latest books from Latter-day Saint authors, that focus on publishing is a real strength.
LDSBookstore.com is different. We are an independent, family-owned company, and instead of publishing books, we focus on making things. Many of the products we sell are designed and made by our own team in Orem, from hand-bound LDS scriptures to missionary plaques. Our growth has been recognized three times on the UV50 list of the fastest-growing companies in Utah Valley.
What Makes LDSBookstore.com Different
1. We make our products in-house in Orem
Our missionary plaques, art, hand-bound scriptures, and engraved jewelry are made right here in our Orem workshop. That means we control the quality of every piece, and it is a big reason we can offer so much personalization.
2. More color and personalization options for your scriptures
We offer color scriptures in 40+ colors and patterns, including genuine leather, buttery-soft simulated leather, and printed pattern covers. You can add name embossing and choose ribbon colors to make a set that is truly one of a kind. Learn more in our color scriptures guide and our guide to personalized scriptures.

When Deseret Book Might Be the Right Choice
We think it is important to be honest about this. If you are looking for the newest books from Deseret Book's own imprints, or you want to browse in person at a store near you, Deseret Book is a great choice. Many of our customers shop at both.
But if you want scriptures in a color you love, a missionary plaque made for your missionary, personalized temple art, or a gift you won't find anywhere else, LDSBookstore.com is built for exactly that. Browse our LDS gift guide for ideas for every occasion.
